Veteran’s Day Spotlight
November 11, 2024
Saying “Thank you” to our local heroes.
Growing up in a Veteran’s home, I always felt a sense of deep pride knowing my father had served in the army. He was fiercely proud of being American, and he passed that pride on to us. It wasn’t until my teenage years that I began to understand the true extent of his sacrifices and the scars still there to this day.
My father had a strong aversion to holidays like the 4th of July and New Year’s Eve. He never wanted to leave the house and was often in bed before dark. Yet I didn’t grasp the reason until one particular Independence Day. While at a church picnic, someone thought it would be amusing to set off a firecracker right next to him. Most people would have jumped in surprise and then laughed it off, but my father—a tall, strong man—suddenly dropped to the ground and crouched under the bench, covering his ears with his eyes tightly shut. In that moment, it felt as if he had been transported back to the front lines of Vietnam, surrounded by gunfire, screams, explosions, and the haunting smells of war.
That experience opened my eyes to the sacrifices he had made. While the pain wasn’t always visible on his face, it lingered in his mind. He fought for the freedoms we enjoy today, carrying invisible scars that surface more on some days than others. Yet, through it all, he has never regretted his service. I honor you this Veteran’s Day, Dad. Thank you, (Paul Jones).
Bravery doesn't end on the battlefield; it echoes in veterans' lifelong courage.''

What’s New in Mont Belvieu?
It’s official: Waffle House
The new location will be on Edgewood Avenue, right in front of Barber’s Hill Animal Hospital. It was recently approved by the city council on October 28th, so expect construction to start soon.
The Blue Zone Boba & Brew
While not entirely new to Chambers County, this family’s food truck officially joined the lineup at Cove Food Park last week. Named after their 5-year-old son, Joseph, who has Autism, their brand aims to promote awareness and acceptance, with blue being the color associated with Autism.
The truck offers a delightful variety of options, from healthy breakfasts to Boba teas and protein shakes. They’re also planning to add acai bowls to their menu soon, and we can’t wait to try those! Be sure to stop by this week and give them a warm welcome to Mont Belvieu! Hours vary, so follow their social media pages for details.
