Scoop on Barbers Hill Sports

Gulf Coast Classic Basketball Tournament

BOYS BASKETBALL: The Barbers Hill Varsity Boys Basketball team had a busy weekend at the Gulf Coast Classic, delivering two impressive victories on Friday, December 6, 2024. First, they dominated Terry High School with an 88-20 win, setting a season-high score. Later that day, they continued their strong performance, defeating Channelview High School 77-45.

Saturday was a day of highs and lows for the Eagles. They opened with a commanding 95-62 victory over the Splendora Wildcats, extending their winning streak to five games. However, the momentum was short-lived. Later that day, Barbers Hill faced the Marian Eagles in a tightly contested matchup but came up just short, falling 63-59. The loss marked the first time this season that Barbers Hill was unable to protect their home court.

The loss also ended an eight-game home winning streak dating back to last season, dropping Barbers Hill's record to 11-4. They will aim to bounce back on Friday when they take on Goose Creek Memorial.

GIRLS BASKETBALL: The Barbers Hill Varsity Girls Basketball team had a packed weekend filled with impressive wins and a tough loss.

On Friday, December 6, 2024, the Eagles cruised to a dominant 75-19 victory over New Caney High School. The win marked their sixth game this season decided by 21 points or more, showcasing their knack for overpowering opponents. Later that day, they continued their strong performance in the Gulf Coast Classic, defeating Channelview High School 77-28.

Saturday brought more action as Barbers Hill edged out Grand Oaks High School in a tight 63-57 battle. However, their momentum was halted later that day when they fell to Clear Creek High School, 51-35.

Barbers Hill has been in excellent form lately, winning seven of their last nine games to improve to 9-4 on the season. Their success has been anchored by a stout defense, allowing just 29.8 points per game. They go on to play West Brook December 10th.

Upcoming Varsity Games:

  • GIRLS Basketball | Tuesday, December 10th, 7pm | Away vs. West Brook

  • BOYS Soccer | Friday, December 13th, 7pm | Away vs. Texas City

  • BOYS Basketball | Friday, December 13th, 7pm | Away vs. Goose Creek Memorial

What Inspired The Scoop?

I’m often asked what inspired me to start The Scoop, so today I’m sharing the story behind it. My family and I are proud Mont Belvieu residents who love our community. I’m not a marketer—I'm an nurse focused on making life better for the people around me. But, as much as I respect our neighboring cities like Baytown and Houston, I’ve always felt Mont Belvieu got the short end of the stick. We weren’t as well-known, were often mentioned as an afterthought, or just left out altogether.

When you search online for events or festivals, you’ll find plenty happening around Mont Belvieu, but rarely anything specifically mentioned for our area. Sure, you can visit the City pages to see what’s happening, then check local Facebook groups for more details, and browse business websites. But it was all scattered and inconvenient. Our community social media pages were always filled with questions like: “What’s going on this weekend?” “Where do I vote?” “Are there any churches having trunk or treats?” “Where can I find all the Christmas festivals?” That’s when it hit me—our community needed a central place to find this information. We needed something or someone that could bring it all together.

One day while listening to a podcast about email newsletters, it clicked: this could be our answer! After a few weeks of brainstorming, research, and design, The Scoop on The Hill was born. Yes, it’s a play on words—the Scoop because we share all the latest info, and "The Hill" because, well, we’re on the hill... you get it! 💙🍦

This week, we’re celebrating 8 weeks of The Scoop, and the response has been amazing. The exponential growth just confirms that it solves a need here in our community. As we continue to grow, we hope you’ll keep reading the newsletter and sharing us with friends and family. We want to continue keep our community, MBTX, the best!

Thanks!

You’ve made it this far—now you’re in the loop on all things Mont Belvieu! Don’t forget to spread the word to someone who wears a bowtie. 👔

See you next time!
