City Scoop | Year in Review ⏪️
January | The year kicked off with the monthly Market in the Park and the beloved Fish Fest. The City introduced the Flash Vote system to citizens, in hopes of enhancing citizen engagement. We welcomed Express Employment Professionals and Little Learning Academy's Churchill Downs Campus to the community.
February | Inclement weather affected the Market, but we came together for memorable events like the Father-Daughter Dance and Penguin Plunge at Eagle Pointe. The city proudly received its Music Friendly Texas Community 🎸 certification and unveiled the new Dog Park at Hackberry Park.
March | Warmer weather brought with it the Spring Sprint 5K and Easter egg hunt. We welcomed Mont Belvieu Physio and Mass Flow Technology to the community.
April | The Spring Outdoor Celebration and Patriots Day were two highlights in April, as was the ribbon cutting ceremony of the new soccer complex. ⚽️
May | The summer Rock the Park series and Movies Under the Stars were launched for 2024. The city’s Hurricane Preparedness Workshop encouraged residents to be aware and involved. ⛈️
June | The summer event series continued in June, and we welcomed a number of new businesses to the area. These included D1 Training, Perry Homes (Riceland), Eagle Express Carwash, and Triumph Industrial Supply.
July | This month, we saw the spectacular 4th of July celebration and the entertaining Cardboard Boat Race. 🚣♂️
August | The 811 Day & Touch-A-Truck was one highlight this month, entertaining kids (and adults) of all ages. The highly anticipated Barbers Hill Chick-Fil-A was opened, along with Driftwood Designs, Wash Pros Express, and West Chambers Hearing Center.
September | A burst of fall air made this month’s Market in the Park one of the busiest! The city hosted the creative Anything But A Boat race. 🛶 We welcomed Someburger and Eagle Cryo Wellness & Spa to town.
October | Our Fall events included October's Breast Cancer Walk-A-Thon with the Market in the Park. Trunk or Wonka Treats finished out the month with family friendly fun for all ages. We welcomed the Blue Doghouse, Ray Grayson State Farm, and James Avery to our community. 🐕️
November | The Veteran’s Day 5K Fun Run & Ruck honored those who serve and have served. Official ribbon cutting ceremonies were held for Cactus Jack's and Blue Hill Tobacco.
December | The year concluded festively with December's tree lighting ceremony, Christmas on The Hill parade, and the opening of Beaky's Hot Chicken and Firehouse Subs. 🐔
Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.
Scoop on Barbers Hill Sports 🏀
GIRLS BASKETBALL: On Thursday, December 26th, the Barbers Hill Girls Basketball team began their tournament run with a tough loss, falling 40-34 to North Crowley High School in the College Station Tournament. However, they rebounded later that day with a thrilling 60-58 victory over Shoemaker High School in the Aggieland Invitational.
The Eagles carried their momentum into Friday, December 27th, defeating Lufkin High School 38-30 in another College Station Tournament matchup. Barbers Hill continued their strong performance on Saturday, wrapping up 2024 with a commanding 36-22 victory over Richardson High School.
With six wins in their last eight games, Barbers Hill Girls Basketball team has been in excellent form, boosting their season record to an impressive 17-7.
BOYS BASKETBALL: After soaring past Lee last Friday, Barbers Hill encountered a setback on December 27th, falling 71-63 to the Episcopal Knights and snapping their three-game winning streak. The loss brought their record to 14-5, but the Eagles found redemption the following day.
In their closest win since December 19, 2023, Barbers Hill narrowly edged out the Stratford Spartans 48-45. Given the Eagles' higher ranking in Texas basketball (87th compared to the Spartans' 393rd), the result was largely expected. The victory boosted Barbers Hill's record to 15-6, lifting their spirits after the earlier defeat.
